Creating the next revolution in power electronics

About Us

Since 2022 Silvertech has been developing  novel silicon carbide transistor technology. Working with research partners at Griffith University and drawing on world leading experts, Silvertech is commercialising a fundamentally new SiC power MOSFET design.

Silvertech’s mission

Silvertech’s mission is to make electronics that help power  the world. We want our semiconductor devices to be used globally and to be more cost effective, higher performing, smaller, lighter, and faster than anything else on the market.

  • Better performance at lower cost with new capabilities advancing the field of power conversion
  • Patented technology is the first genuinely new innovation in SiC MOSFETS
  • Pathway to fully integrated on-die power conversion modules

The Problem Silvertech Solves

Synchronisation of the electricity grid, and control of high electrical power in EVs, data centres, power traction, inverters and electric motors all require electrical switches called power MOSFETs

  • Traditionally made from Silicon, but these are low voltage and current

Modern semiconductors such as GaN and SiC are the most recent options to fabricate these devices

However existing SiC and GaN devices are costlier to manufacture or have significant drawbacks

  • GaN is limited to relatively low voltages – severely restricting applications (low power)

The Silvertech Solution

Silvertech’s patented SiC lateral FET delivers high voltage performance at lower cost than GaN FETs and can be integrated into total on-chip solutions like silicon.

Silvertech’s new FETs incorporates the best features of silicon and GaN with none of the drawbacks.

Silvertech MOSFET structure is totally novel, exceedingly innovative and simple

Lower cost of manufacture and higher performance. The holy grail of innovation

The Problem Silvertech Solves

  • Lateral Silicon and GaN FETs allow on-chip integration but suffer from poor thermal and voltage performance.
  • Vertical SiC FETs achieve high voltage and power handling, but cannot be integrated on-chip, are complicated to manufacture, and are complex to design into products.
  • Silvertech’s SiC lateral FET has a simple manufacturing process, is compatible with silicon fabs, can be integrated into on-chip devices, and has exceptional thermal, voiltage, and power handling.

The advantages of SiC over Silicon and GaN

Higher breakdown voltage

Lower loss

Lower on resistance

Higher speed switching

Very high power handling

Integrates with CMOS

Improved thermal performance

Radiation hard

Legacy SiC Challenges are Silvertech’s Opportunity

SiC is difficult to process and lacks the very long industrial development cycle that Si-CMOS has experienced since the mid- 20th century.

Existing SiC manufacturing processes are complicated and expensive

  • Cost and processing complexity causes high cost
Too many process steps induce crystal defects and impact yield
Require better capital utilization to drive down costs

Device design limitations causing system complexity

  • SiC MOSFETs are widely used today, but available process technologies limit possible device design (vertical devices have the drain on the bottom and it can’t easily be integrated with other devices)
  • Vertical devices presents a major barrier for integration with other devices
  • SiC intrinsic material benefits not fully exploited
  • Device performance characteristics increasing total system complexity

Very large market with strong growth

The SiC power device market in 2024 is $US 3 Billion and growing quickly

  • Growing at 24% CAGR year on year

Driven mainly by the electrification of global energy systems (data centres, automotive, electrification of traction, and renewable energy applications)

Silvertech’s share of this market will be significant, bringing higher performance and lower cost than competitors
